VAT calculator: add the tax to a price, or take it out
The short answer
Type the price, pick the country and whether the price is before tax or includes it, and you get the tax and the price before and after it. To work it by hand: tax = pre-tax price × rate, and pre-tax price = inclusive price ÷ (1 + rate). At 15%, 100 riyals becomes 115, and 115 comes back to 100.

The VAT rate in each country
| Country | Standard rate | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia | 15% | 100 becomes 115 |
| Egypt | 14% | 100 becomes 114 |
| UAE | 5% | 100 becomes 105 |
| Bahrain | 10% | 100 becomes 110 |
| Oman | 5% | 100 becomes 105 |
| Kuwait | — | Not applied as of October 2026 |
| Qatar | — | Not applied as of October 2026 |
The standard rates as of October 2026. Some goods and services are treated differently in each country; if your product is one of them, type its rate in the calculator.
The sum, as a formula
- Adding the tax to a price
Tax = price × rate, total = price × (1 + rate). At 15%: 250 × 1.15 = 287.50, of which 37.50 is tax.
- Taking the tax out of an inclusive price
Pre-tax price = inclusive price ÷ (1 + rate). At Egypt's 14%: 570 ÷ 1.14 = 500, of which 70 is tax. Do not multiply the inclusive price by the rate: that gives 79.80 instead of 70.
On ArabyBot Store you set the tax rate once and choose whether your prices include it, and the tax shows in the cart and on every order's invoice. In Saudi Arabia the invoice becomes a «simplified tax invoice» with a QR code in the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority's format once you enter your VAT number.
Frequently asked questions
How do I work out 15% VAT?
Multiply the pre-tax price by 0.15 for the tax, and by 1.15 for the price including tax. A price of 200 riyals before tax carries 30 riyals of VAT and becomes 230 riyals.
How do I take the tax out of a tax-inclusive price?
Divide the tax-inclusive price by (1 + the rate) for the pre-tax price; the difference is the tax. A price of 115 riyals including 15% is 100 riyals before tax, with 15 riyals of VAT. Multiplying the inclusive price by 15% gives a number that is too large.
What is the VAT rate in Egypt?
The general rate is 14%, and some goods and services are treated differently by law. The calculator takes any rate you type if your product is one of them.
Is there VAT in Kuwait and Qatar?
Not as of October 2026. The 2026 amendments to the GCC framework let each state set its own rate, not below 5%, so check the rate when it starts.
Do I show my store's prices with or without tax?
On ArabyBot Store you choose it in the store settings: the tax rate, and whether the prices you write include it. The invoice shows the pre-tax price, the tax and the total, and in Saudi Arabia it becomes a «simplified tax invoice» with a QR code once you enter your VAT number.
