The short answer

CPL (cost per lead) is what advertising costs you for one person to leave their name and number in a form or message you: the ad budget divided by the leads. An ad costing 2,000 that brought 100 leads has a CPL of 20.

Why does CPL matter to a seller?

Because it measures ads that do not sell directly, such as real estate, courses and services. But a cheap lead who never answers or buys costs more than a pricier serious one, so follow it through to the order or booking.

Frequently asked questions

1

What is the difference between CPL and CPA?

CPL is the cost of someone who left their details; CPA is the cost of someone who actually bought or booked.

2

How do I lower CPL without worse leads?

With one qualifying question in the form and a fast reply to every lead; a late reply loses the serious ones first.
