What does the WhatsApp API cost in Morocco and Algeria? Replying is free
Morocco and Algeria are the two cheapest markets we measure, at the same rate. And yet what moves your bill most is not the rate but who starts the conversation and your customer's dialling code. This page explains both with Meta's own figures, in Moroccan dirhams and Algerian dinars, with a calculator for your month.

The short answer
Replying to a customer who wrote first is free and uncapped; you pay only for what you send — $0.0040 for a utility or authentication message to a Moroccan or Algerian number, about four centimes or half a dinar. They are the two cheapest markets we measure, a quarter of the UAE rate.

Who started the conversation? That is where billing begins
Since 2026 Meta bills per message rather than per conversation, and there is no 24-hour window counted once any more. But that applies only to what you start; whatever the customer starts, you answer for free however long it runs.
Free. No cap.
Anyone who messages you — from an ad, a button on your store, or your published number — you answer and keep talking at no cost. The bot answers, your team answers, you send images, files and buttons: all zero.
You pay for that message alone
When you start, you use a template Meta approved, one of three kinds each with its price. The moment the customer replies, a window opens in which you answer for free.
The real rates — to a Moroccan or Algerian number
| Message kind | In USD | 🇲🇦 Roughly in MAD | 🇩🇿 Roughly in DZD |
|---|---|---|---|
| Replying to a customer However much you send, however long it runs. | 0.0000 | Free | Free |
| A utility template while the window is open Sent while the customer is still talking, it bills at zero. | 0.0000 | Free | Free |
| Utility — order, shipping, invoice The rate straight from Meta, measured on real sends | 0.0040 | 0.040 MAD | 0.532 DZD |
| Authentication (OTP) The same rate as utility in these two markets | 0.0040 | 0.040 MAD | 0.532 DZD |
| Marketing — an offer or a campaign The dearest on the sheet. We print no figure — we have not sent enough marketing to Moroccan or Algerian numbers for Meta to return a rate, and any other number would be copied, not measured. | — | — | — |
Converted at 9.90 dirhams and 133 dinars to the dollar. Meta bills in USD, so the local-currency figures are approximate.
Your customers abroad — and your bill knows it
Meta prices by the dialling code of the number you send to, not by where your business sits. A Casablanca store selling to the diaspora in Europe, or an Oran store messaging customers in the Gulf, pays the rate of the number's country. The same campaign costs very different sums depending on who is in it:
| You send to a number in | Per utility message | A thousand messages, in MAD |
|---|---|---|
| 🇲🇦 Morocco | 0.0040 | 40 MAD |
| 🇩🇿 Algeria | 0.0040 | 40 MAD |
| 🇪🇬 Egypt | 0.0036 | 36 MAD |
| 🇮🇶 Iraq | 0.0091 | 90 MAD |
| 🇸🇦 Saudi Arabia | 0.0107 | 106 MAD |
| 🇦🇪 United Arab Emirates | 0.0157 | 155 MAD |
So before you budget a campaign, sort your list by dialling code rather than by city. Moroccan and Algerian numbers are the cheapest on the whole table.
Work out your bill in dirhams or dinars
Enter a normal month. The calculator separates what goes to Meta from the platform subscription, and shows how many of your messages cost nothing.

Using the measured rates above. Change any number and the total updates.
An estimate, not an invoice. Meta's fees are billed to your own account with no markup from us, and the subscription is billed in USD — there is no dirham or dinar price in our system and we would not print one we do not charge.
Three things called WhatsApp — which one has fees?
Regular WhatsApp
The one on your phone. Free, no fees, but not built for business: no team, no bot, no reports.
The WhatsApp Business app
A second app from the same store, also free. It has a catalogue and quick replies, but lives on one phone and no team can work it.
The WhatsApp Business API
Not an app — an interface connecting your number to software, which Meta calls the WhatsApp Business Platform. It alone carries fees.
Meta's fees are one thing; the platform is another
Meta bills the message, not whatever wrote it, so the rate is identical whether a person replies or an AI agent answers in Darija. All of the above goes to Meta on your own account — we take nothing on it. Then the platform: it connects the number, runs the bot, gathers WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook into one team inbox, and confirms the order before dispatch — that is what carries a subscription.
Choosing a provider: the cheapest WhatsApp API is not the cheapest subscription
Every provider buys from Meta at the same rate, so the monthly subscription is not the deciding number. Two things are: whether the provider adds anything over Meta's price, and whether the bot understands your customers when they write Darija and French in one sentence. Ask outright: "what do you add over Meta's price?" — a provider who will not answer with a number has answered.
Measured from Meta itself — pricing_analyticsmeasured 5 September 2026Questions we are asked
What does the WhatsApp API cost in Morocco?
There is no single figure, because billing is per message you send. Replying to a customer who wrote first is free and uncapped. If you start it: an order or shipping message is $0.0040 — about four centimes — and an authentication code the same. Then the platform subscription, separate from Meta's fees.
And in Algeria?
The same dollar rate: $0.0040 for a utility message to an Algerian number, about half a dinar. Meta prices each country separately, and Morocco and Algeria happen to sit in the same band — the cheapest of every market we measure.
Why are Morocco and Algeria cheaper than the Gulf?
Because Meta prices by the recipient's dialling code, not by where your business sits. A message to an Emirati number costs 4 times a message to a Moroccan one, and to a Saudi number about 2.7 times. A Casablanca store messaging customers in Paris pays the French rate, not the Moroccan one.
Is WhatsApp Business free in Morocco and Algeria?
The app is, with no fees at all. The fees are on the API only: Meta's in the table above, then the platform that runs it. If you do not need a team, a bot or a link to your store, the free app is enough and there is nothing to pay.
What do bulk messages cost?
No flat price — you pay per message in the campaign. A thousand utility messages to Moroccan numbers is about 40 dirhams; to Algerian numbers about 532 dinars. A marketing campaign is dearer, and we print no figure because we have not measured it in these two markets.
Does the bot understand Darija and French in the same message?
Yes. The agent is a language model that reads «بشحال», «واش كاين» and French in one sentence and answers in the style you set. It does not change the price: Meta bills the message, not its language or who wrote it.
Are there fees beyond Meta's?
Two separate ones: Meta's, billed to your own Meta account with no markup from us, then the platform subscription. Ours is $40 a month for WhatsApp, billed in USD — there is no dirham or dinar price in our system, and we would not print one we do not charge.
