A Ramadan WhatsApp campaign: a four-week plan that starts before the month, on approved templates and without a ban
On this page 5
The short answer
With a plan that starts a month before Ramadan: collect opt-ins, get the templates approved at Meta before the rush, split the list into three segments rather than one, send after iftar rather than before, one message a week per customer, and an agent that answers replies until dawn. A campaign on the official API with approved templates is not banned; what gets banned is blasting from a regular number.

Four weeks before: what cannot be recovered later
- Week one: collect opt-ins
Everyone who messages, buys or clicks an ad can opt in to "Ramadan offers on WhatsApp" with one tap: a button on the site, a question from the agent at the end of every conversation, a field at checkout. The list you build now is the whole campaign; a message to someone who did not opt in is a report waiting to happen.
- Week two: get the templates approved
Five templates go to Meta now, not on the first day of Ramadan when the queue fills: a pre-month heads-up, the weekly offer, a Ramadan greeting, a last-days reminder, an Eid greeting. Write them with variables (name, product, expiry) so one template serves every week.
- Week three: split the list into three
Bought in the last ninety days (wants the offer), bought before that (wants a reason to return), messaged but never bought (wants an answer, not an offer). One message for all three loses two of them.
- Week four: prepare the agent and the team for the night
The knowledge base carries the month's offers and Ramadan delivery times, the agent answers "in stock?" and "will it arrive before Eid?" until dawn, and whoever on the team covers after midnight knows it now. A reply three hours late in Ramadan is an order that went elsewhere.
The sequence: five messages in five weeks
| When | To whom | What | Type at Meta |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 days before | All three segments | Heads-up: Ramadan delivery and hours + "reply yes for offers" | Marketing |
| Week 1 | Recent buyers | The weekly offer on a product related to what they bought | Marketing |
| Week 2 | Older buyers | "We missed you" + a return offer | Marketing |
| Week 3 | Asked, never bought | The answer to the most-asked question + a link | Marketing |
| Last 3 days | Engaged only | The last order date before Eid | Marketing |
| Eid morning | Everyone | A greeting with no offer | Marketing |
| After every order | Whoever ordered | Order confirmation before shipping | Utility — far cheaper |
The cost on your account at Meta's rates: marketing in Egypt about 4 EGP a message from our invoice (an estimate from one row); utility $0.0036 to Egypt and $0.0107 to Saudi Arabia as measured. Customers' replies and everything after cost nothing.
The five templates, ready for approval
Ramadan Kareem, {{1}}. In Ramadan we deliver until {{2}} pm, free above {{3}}. Reply "yes" to get the month's offers first.
{{1}}, this week's offer on {{2}}: {{3}} until {{4}}. Order here: {{5}} — or write to us and we will prepare it.
{{1}}, the last date for pre-Eid orders is {{2}}. Anything after arrives after Eid. Left on the {{3}} offer: {{4}}.
Blessings to you, {{1}}. We wish you a blessed month. The {{2}} team.
Eid Mubarak, {{1}}. Best wishes from the {{2}} team.
A marketing template with a discount reads as an ad and gets reported more; a pure greeting reads as a greeting and keeps your number saved for after the month. Separating them — greeting one day, offer two days later — is the difference in reports.
The mistakes we see every Ramadan
Blasting from a regular number because "the list is small" — the commonest ban of the whole month. Templates on day one, approved in week two. One offer for everyone, so yesterday's buyer gets "we missed you". Nobody answering after midnight, which is when all the buying happens.
Frequently asked questions
How many messages per customer during Ramadan?
One a week at most — four in the month, and a fifth for Eid. More raises reports, reports lower the number's quality rating and its sending limit — in the very month you need it most. Replies to whoever wrote to you do not count here; they are unlimited.
When to send: before iftar or after?
One to two hours after, or after taraweeh. A message before iftar reaches someone busy and hungry who does not buy; after iftar people open their phones and buy until suhoor. In Egypt and Saudi Arabia the peak is after 11 pm, so let the agent answer until dawn.
Will my number be banned if I send Ramadan offers to my whole list?
On the official API, with an approved template, to people who opted in: no. From a regular number or an unofficial "blast" tool: yes, and Ramadan is the most-banned month because everyone blasts in it. The whole difference is consent and the template, not the recipient count. Details here.
What does an offer message cost?
An offer is a marketing template at Meta's rate for the recipient's country, on your account: in Egypt about 4 EGP a message from our invoice (an estimate from one row); in Saudi Arabia we have not yet been billed for a marketing message, so we print no figure. The customer's reply and everything after it is free, and the order confirmation is a far cheaper utility template.
And Eid?
One greeting on the morning of Eid with no offer, then the Eid offer on the second or third day to those who engaged in Ramadan only. A greeting that carries a discount reads as an ad; a greeting alone reads as a greeting, and that is what keeps your number saved.
