Payment on WhatsApp in Egypt and Saudi Arabia: payment links inside the chat, how payment is confirmed, and what the bot never does with money
Three ways a payment link from your gateway reaches a WhatsApp chat (fixed, from the connected store, from your system), how payment is confirmed, two ready messages, and why cash on delivery stays the rule with pre-shipping confirmation — with our measured figures.
The short answer
There is no in-WhatsApp payment in our markets; what works is a payment link from your gateway opened from the message, after which the customer returns to the chat. Three ways the link arrives: a fixed link to your payment page or wallet written in the agent's file, a link generated by your connected store with the order, or a link from your system through a tool the agent calls with the amount. Confirmation comes from the gateway, not the bot: the agent never says "payment received" about a payment it did not read. Cash on delivery stays the rule, with button confirmation before shipping.

Three ways to pay from inside the chat
| Way | How the link arrives | How payment is confirmed | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| A fixed link to a payment page or wallet | Written in the agent's file, sent with the amount | A receipt photo a teammate confirms | Small businesses and services |
| A link from the connected store | Generated with the order in Shopify or WooCommerce | The order status changes on its own and the customer is told | Online stores |
| A link from your system | A webhook tool the agent calls with the amount | Your system posts the order event to the platform | Anyone with their own gateway and system |
| Cash on delivery | No link — button confirmation before shipping | At delivery | The rule in Egypt, common in the Gulf |
Two ready messages
Your order {{1}} comes to {{2}}. To pay now: {{3}} — after payment your order is prepared at once. Or choose cash on delivery by replying "delivery".
{{1}}, your order {{2}} is held for you until {{3}}. To pay: {{4}}. If you have already paid, ignore this message.
It never says "payment received" unless it read it from your store or system, gives no discount, and never accepts card details in the chat — the card is entered on the gateway's page only. And we do not handle your customers' money or store their cards.
Frequently asked questions
Is there in-WhatsApp payment in Egypt or Saudi Arabia?
No. In-WhatsApp payment exists in a few markets outside our region. What works here is a payment link from your gateway opened from the message, after which the customer returns to the chat, or cash on delivery, or a transfer. And we do not handle your customers' money: the link is yours and the gateway is yours.
How does the agent send the right payment link for each order?
One of three ways: a fixed link to your payment page or wallet written in its file, sent with the amount; a link generated by your connected store (Shopify or WooCommerce) when the order is created; or a link from your system through a webhook tool the agent calls with the order amount, which returns the link. Agent tools.
What happens after payment?
The customer returns to the chat, and the confirmation comes from your gateway: if your store is connected the order status changes and the customer is told automatically; if the link is fixed, the customer sends the receipt photo and a teammate confirms from the unified inbox. And the agent never says "payment received" about a payment it did not read from a system.
Does a payment link cut returns?
Prepayment all but removes the "I changed my mind" return, but the Arab customer prefers cash on delivery, so forcing it loses orders. The practical path: button confirmation before shipping for everyone (on our platform 51% of a sample of 11,694 orders confirmed), and an optional payment link with a small incentive for those who want it.
Is the payment-link message paid?
Inside the open conversation window, no. Afterwards a utility template (payment reminder) at Meta's rate for the recipient's country — one of the cheapest categories.
