The short answer

It depends on the recipient's dialling code: from $0.0036 a code to an Egyptian number, $0.0040 to Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Mauritania and Somalia, $0.0107 to Saudi Arabia (measured on 1,147 codes) and $0.0157 to the UAE, up to $0.044 to Kuwait — the dearest Arab market. Morocco has been $0.023 since 1 October 2026. Every resend is a new billed code, and Syria is a special case because Meta excludes businesses based there.

The code price to a number in each Arab country

A verification code is an "authentication" message on an approved template, and Meta bills every delivered code at the recipient country's rate. The table runs from cheapest to dearest, and each line says where it comes from: measured from Meta's invoices to our accounts, or Meta's official card effective 1 October 2026.

Three rules for reading the table

  • The price follows the recipient's number, not your business's country: a Cairo store sending a code to a Saudi number pays $0.0107, not $0.0036.
  • Every resend is a new billed code. A "resend" button with no wait doubles the bill; put a countdown between attempts.
  • The cheapest is Egypt and the dearest Kuwait: about 12 times apart for the same code. Morocco moved on 1 October 2026 from $0.0040 to $0.0230.

Two special cases: Syria and Palestine

Syria

Meta's support page excludes businesses based in Syria from the WhatsApp Business Platform and says users in Syria are not eligible to receive its messages. Even so, Meta billed our accounts for codes delivered to +963 numbers in September 2026. In practice: the code reaches some Syrian numbers with no guarantee it reaches them all, so keep another way in. The detail is on the Syria page.

Palestine: two codes, two prices

A number starting +970 is not named on Meta's card, so it falls in the «Other» band ($0.0077, which is what Meta actually billed us). A number starting +972 is priced on that code's line of the card: $0.0053 a code.

Your own number or the shared number

The table is what you pay Meta when the code goes out from your own number connected to the platform, with no markup from us. If you have no WhatsApp API number, the code goes out from the shared number at a flat price per code from your wallet ($0.0300), within minutes of signing up and with no Meta account. The shared number.

For developers: one call sends the code and one verifies it, with PHP, Laravel, Node.js and Python examples in the OTP API guide.

Frequently asked

1

What does a WhatsApp verification code cost in Saudi Arabia?

$0.0107 a code, about 0.040 SAR, measured on 1,147 messages Meta billed our accounts — the largest code sample we hold for any country. Every resend is a new billed code.

2

And in Egypt?

$0.0036 a code, about 0.20 EGP, measured on 125 messages Meta billed our accounts — among the cheapest Arab rates.

3

Does a verification code reach Syrian numbers?

In September 2026 Meta billed our accounts for codes to Syrian +963 numbers at $0.0091, and Meta bills only what it delivered — so some arrive. But Meta's support page says users in Syria are not eligible to receive platform messages, and that businesses based in Syria cannot use it. So do not make a WhatsApp code the only way in for Syrian customers: keep a fallback.

4

And in Sudan and Iraq?

Sudan $0.0040 a code, measured on 10 messages Meta billed our accounts; Iraq $0.0079, from Meta's official rate card effective 1 October 2026. The price follows the recipient's dialling code, not where your business is.

5

What is the "authentication-international" rate on Meta's card?

A higher rate for codes sent to users in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Iraq, Morocco and Oman by a business based in another country — but it applies only to a business past 750,000 business-initiated messages in a moving 30 days, with 30 days' notice. An ordinary business pays the table, and your own home country is always billed at the domestic rate.

6

Is a WhatsApp code cheaper than an SMS?

In most Arab countries yes, and it reaches more people because it lands in an app people keep open. The comparison in numbers is in WhatsApp OTP instead of SMS.
