The short answer
Shopify is a mature global platform with a wide app store, but according to its own pages most of its bills are charged in dollars, Shopify Payments is not available in Egypt or Saudi Arabia, and cash-on-delivery confirmation, local shipping and WhatsApp selling come from apps. ArabyBot Store builds these needs in, with a bot that sells from the store, and imports your products from a Shopify export file; Shopify stays better for international selling and for merchants who depend on its apps.

What does Shopify do well, before you look for an alternative?
Shopify is a mature global platform: stable hosting you do not run yourself, a wide app store that covers almost any need, many free and paid themes, tools for selling in several languages, and an admin available in Arabic. Anyone selling internationally or needing a rare integration finds there what newer platforms do not offer yet.
- Maturity and stability. A platform running for many years, surrounded by a huge ecosystem of developers, agencies and partners; any problem you hit has usually been hit and documented before.
- The app store. When you need something unusual — a link to a specific accounting system, complex subscriptions, or a tool for a distant market — an app for it most likely exists.
- Themes. A theme store of free and paid designs for many sectors, and the option to edit the code if you have a developer.
- International selling. Several store languages activated from the admin, tools for foreign markets, and Shopify Payments in the countries it lists — the UAE among them.
If this is what you actually need, an alternative is not a goal in itself. The right question is: does Shopify fit the way you sell in Egypt and Saudi Arabia?
What does a merchant in Egypt and Saudi Arabia run into on Shopify?
Five things an Egyptian or Saudi merchant meets on Shopify: the subscription bill in dollars, no Shopify Payments in either country so transaction fees are added with any other gateway, cash-on-delivery confirmation through an app, local couriers through apps, and right-to-left support that varies from theme to theme.
| Item | On Shopify | What it means for a merchant in Egypt and Saudi Arabia |
|---|---|---|
| Billing currency | Shopify's page says most of its bills are charged in US dollars, and the local billing currency list includes neither the pound nor the riyal | You pay the subscription and apps with an international payment method, and the amount in your currency moves with the exchange rate |
| Shopify Payments | Egypt and Saudi Arabia are not on the supported-country list (the UAE is) | You accept cards through another gateway, and Shopify then charges «third-party transaction fees» at a rate set by your plan, on top of the gateway's fees |
| Cash on delivery | A manual payment method; the order is «unpaid» until you mark it paid, with no transaction fees on it | It works, but confirming it on WhatsApp before shipping and its rules (a fee, a ceiling, blocking past refusers) usually come from apps |
| Shipping labels in the admin | Available to eligible fulfilment locations in specific countries: the US, Canada, Australia, the UK and several European countries | Local couriers in Egypt and Saudi Arabia are connected through their apps or run from their own dashboards |
| Right-to-left | The latest Horizon themes support it; others must be checked | Test the theme in Arabic on a phone before adopting it: the product page, the cart and checkout |
| Selling on WhatsApp | Through apps or outside tools that connect WhatsApp to the store | An extra subscription and another dashboard, with the bot reading the catalogue through the connection |
The first five rows come from Shopify's help pages as we read them in September 2026, and their lists change; check the page itself before you decide. None of this stops you selling on Shopify from Egypt or Saudi Arabia; it is extra cost and effort to weigh before choosing.
Does Shopify support cash on delivery in Egypt and Saudi Arabia?
Yes. Cash on delivery on Shopify is a «manual payment method» you switch on in the payment settings; according to Shopify's page these orders show as unpaid until you mark them paid, and no third-party transaction fees apply to them. What the merchant here lacks is what surrounds the order: confirmation before shipping, refusal rules, and ad measurement.
In Egypt and Saudi Arabia the cost of cash on delivery does not come from the method itself but from orders refused at the door: shipping both ways, stock held up, and an ad that thinks it sold. So around every order the merchant needs four things:
- Confirming the order with a WhatsApp message before handing it to the courier.
- Cash-on-delivery rules: an extra fee, a ceiling on the order value, and withholding it from anyone who refused a delivery before.
- A customer record saying whether this is their first order, whether they are trusted, or whether they refused before.
- Reporting the purchase to the ad when the order is confirmed, not when the button is pressed.
On Shopify these four are built from apps and tools — including the ArabyBot bot itself once you connect it to a Shopify store. In ArabyBot Store they are part of the store: cash-on-delivery rules in the payment settings, a WhatsApp confirmation that closes when you confirm or cancel from the panel, the customer record, a fake-order shield allowing three orders per 30 minutes per phone number, and the option to report the purchase to the Meta Pixel at confirmation. More in reducing cash-on-delivery returns.
Where does ArabyBot Store differ from Shopify?
In three things: selling in the chat is part of the store, not an app on top of it; Egypt's and Saudi Arabia's needs are built in (cash on delivery with its rules, local gateways on your contract, 17 automatic couriers, VAT and ZATCA); and the storefront is right-to-left Arabic in every template. In return it is a new and much smaller platform.
The bot and the store are one product
The AI agent reads the store itself at the moment of the question: products, sizes, photos, quantity offers and stock, so a price change shows in the next reply. It records the order inside the chat through the store's own checkout steps (offers, shipping zones, stock and discount code), answers shipping, payment and returns questions from your settings, and records a «tell me when it is back» request, then sends an automatic message when the product returns. Details in a store linked to WhatsApp.
Local payment and shipping
In Egypt: Kashier for cards, wallets and bank instalments, Paymob for cards and wallets, and transfer, InstaPay and Vodafone Cash with a receipt. In Saudi Arabia: Moyasar and Tap for mada, cards and Apple Pay, and Tabby and Tamara for instalments, built to their official documentation and running on your contract with them. Every gateway uses your keys, so the money reaches you directly and we take no percentage of your orders. Shipping: 17 couriers create the waybill and track status automatically, among them Bosta, Aramex, J&T and Mylerz in Egypt and SMSA, Aymakan, RedBox and Naqel in Saudi Arabia — on your own account with each one. The courier guide goes through them.
Arabic from the start
All six templates are right-to-left Arabic, each with a different structure for the product page and cart; the first is free and the other five are bought once. With them: ten Arabic fonts, light and dark mode, and an optional English storefront on /en links. A Saudi store gets VAT, a simplified tax invoice with a ZATCA-format QR code, ZATCA phase-2 integration that is ready and passed the test environment, and prices with the new riyal symbol. Open the live templates.
Sales tools inside the store
Quantity offers, coupons and coupon links, automatic discounts and countdown sales, a landing page per product with A/B testing, abandoned-cart reminders on WhatsApp, the Meta Pixel with the Conversions API, and a source for every order — inside the store, with no app for each. The full picture is on the ArabyBot Store page.
When does Shopify stay the better choice over any alternative?
Shopify stays better if your core selling is international, if you depend on specific apps from its app store, if you need a point of sale in a physical shop, or if you sell in a currency our store does not support, such as the Kuwaiti dinar. In those cases, do not move; connect the bot to your Shopify store instead.
And this is what ArabyBot Store does not do today, plainly:
- No point of sale (POS) for a physical shop.
- Six selling currencies: Egyptian pound, Saudi riyal, UAE dirham, Qatari riyal, Moroccan dirham and US dollar; no selling in Kuwaiti, Bahraini or Jordanian dinars or Omani riyals, although shoppers can view prices in their own currency from 17.
- No app store; the tools are built in, and what is not built in is not added by a third-party app, but through the store API and signed webhooks for those with a developer.
- No mobile app to run the store yet; you manage it from the web panel in any browser, and the store itself installs on a shopper's phone as a web app under your name.
- A new platform: the years of experience and the size of the ecosystem around Shopify are not replaced by a feature list.
How do you move from Shopify to an Arabic alternative without losing your products and links?
With the export file, without re-typing a single product: export the products from the Shopify admin as a CSV file, upload it to the new store so the products are read with their sizes, colours, prices and photos, then set up shipping and payment, and move your domain last. The old product links keep working on your domain with an automatic redirect to the new pages.
- Export the products from Shopify
From the Shopify admin: Products, then Export, choosing all products as CSV. Do not sort the file in a spreadsheet before uploading; Shopify's own page warns that sorting can separate variants and images from their products.
- Upload the file to the new store
The store recognises a Shopify file from its header row and reads the name, description, brand, category and visibility, two product options such as size and colour, and for each variant its price, compare-at price, SKU and stock, plus photos and weight. If a Shopify product has a third option, review it after the upload, because the store works with two. Nothing is written until the whole file parses, and a product that already exists by SKU is updated rather than duplicated, so you can re-upload the same file to change prices.
- Keep the Shopify store open until the photos appear
According to Shopify's page, the export file carries links to the images, not the images themselves. The store copies them into its own storage automatically after the upload, so do not close the Shopify store before you see them in your new one.
- Move the customers
The customer file from Shopify is imported by name, phone and e-mail, one customer per number. Nobody counts as agreeing to WhatsApp marketing messages because they were a customer on another platform; consent is given to your store anew.
- Set up shipping and payment
Shipping zones by governorate or region, the gateway keys from your contract, and your account with the courier. Keep an export of your old Shopify orders yourself; the product file does not carry the order history.
- Move the domain last
Once the new store is complete, point your domain at it. The old /products/ links work on your domain and lead to the same product, so links in ads and search results are not lost. The steps are in the guide to connecting a domain.
You do not need to move to try selling in the chat: the bot works with a Shopify store as it is. If you do decide to move, move in a quiet period rather than a season, and place a full test order yourself before switching the domain.
Frequently asked questions about a Shopify alternative
Does Shopify work in Egypt and Saudi Arabia?
Yes, a Shopify store can be opened from both countries. But according to Shopify's help pages most of its bills are charged in US dollars, the pound and the riyal are not among the local billing currencies, and Shopify Payments is not listed in Egypt or Saudi Arabia; so you accept cards through another gateway, and Shopify then adds transaction fees at a rate set by your plan.
Is Shopify in Arabic?
The Shopify admin is available in Arabic according to its languages page. The storefront's right-to-left layout depends on the theme: Shopify's page says the latest versions of the Horizon family of themes support right-to-left languages, and asks you to confirm support for any other theme before relying on it.
Does Shopify support cash on delivery?
Yes, as a manual payment method. According to Shopify's page these orders show as «unpaid» until you mark them paid after collecting, and no third-party transaction fees apply to them. Confirming the order on WhatsApp before shipping comes from an app or an outside tool.
How do I move my products from Shopify to ArabyBot Store?
Export the products from the Shopify admin as a CSV file and upload it to the store: names, descriptions, sizes, colours, prices, SKUs, stock, photos and weight are read, the photos are copied into the store's own storage, and the old product links keep working on your domain through an automatic redirect.
Can I stay on Shopify and add a WhatsApp bot?
Yes. The ArabyBot bot connects to the Shopify store itself: it reads the catalogue and stock, confirms cash-on-delivery orders and follows up abandoned carts. Details in connecting Shopify to WhatsApp.
Do you take a commission on store sales?
We take no percentage of your orders. Every gateway runs on your own keys and contract, so the money goes from the shopper straight to your account, and we never stand between buyer and seller.
