The short answer

Churn rate is the number of customers you lost over a period divided by the customers at its start. In subscriptions it is those who cancelled; in a store you define it yourself: those who did not buy again within a period you choose. Start the month with 200 subscribers, lose 10, and the rate is 5%.

Why does Churn rate matter to a seller?

Because every customer you lose has to be replaced by a new one you pay to acquire. Lowering churn a little lifts profit more than you would think, so learn why customers leave before you add ads.
