The short answer
A personal ChatGPT account is not connected to your business WhatsApp; the right way is an AI agent on a WhatsApp Business number through the official API, running on a model from OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude or others. The steps: from zero to an agent answering your number
- Connect a WhatsApp Business number
Your number on the official API from “Connect WhatsApp”, and it can stay on the WhatsApp Business app through coexistence. Connecting WhatsApp.
- Create the agent and pick the model
From the “AI Hub” → “New agent”: the name and business type, then “Global API” or your own key.
- Write its instructions and dialect
Write the instructions or press “Build the prompt” to generate them from a few questions, then choose the reply dialect and tone. Choosing the dialect.
- Give it your information
Link knowledge bases from your files, site and Q&A, and switch on what you need: image understanding, voice replies, handoff to staff and working hours. The knowledge base.
- Deploy and test it
In “Deploy” choose the WhatsApp number — and your Facebook and Instagram pages and website chat if you like — then test it in the Playground with your customers' questions before it answers them.
What the agent does beyond talking
A model alone writes fine words that may be wrong. What makes the agent useful to your business is what ties it to reality: it searches your store's products and stock and records the order, writes to a Google Sheet, reads your knowledge base, and says “I don't know” and hands the chat to staff instead of inventing. Since 15 January 2026 Meta's WhatsApp Business terms bar general-purpose assistants whose main service is the AI itself, and allow AI that serves a business's customers about its products, orders and bookings. An agent answering your customers from your business information is the allowed case.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a ChatGPT Plus subscription to connect it to WhatsApp?
No. ChatGPT Plus is for personal use in OpenAI's app and gives you no key to connect. A key comes from the provider's developer platform and is billed by usage. In ArabyBot you need no key at all if you choose “Global API”.
Can I connect AI to the ordinary WhatsApp app on my phone?
The official route is a WhatsApp Business number through the API. “Connect” tools that work by scanning a WhatsApp Web code on your phone are unofficial and put the number at risk of a ban. With coexistence your number can stay on the WhatsApp Business app and the API together. Coexistence.
Which is better for Arabic: ChatGPT, Gemini or Claude?

Does WhatsApp ban AI?
